Having successfully installed Suse as my first Linux distribution, I thought I would try a more complex version and selected Debian, largely because of the Very Verbose Installation guide.
I follwed the guide (almost) and have Debian installed in console mode (no GUI yet).
The problem I have is that Debian has decided that when the bell sounds, it uses the sound card not the speaker on the motherboard as most systems do. This beep is VERY loud. I have managed to turn off the beep when a keyboard error occurs but not the one that sounds when I shutdown.
Of course I can unplug the speakers when I use Debian but that hardly seems like the right solution.
There must be a configuration somewhere that instructs Debian to use the sound card rather than the motherboard speaker. Or can I just turn off the beep somewhere.
(I have set bell-style = none in inputrc)
