Other than if you need to learn linux for developing purposes, you already have the freebsd unix foundation on your computer and the command line right at your fingertips, unless of course your running os 9. So it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to run linux, unless you want to learn it.

I think it's a great idea, expecially with OS9 or older
I'm not very fond of OSX myself and get kind of sick seeing all these Linux projects trying to look and feel like OSX...
This is more of an opinion/discussing then a PPC question...off to /dev/null....er.. /dev/random!

Well, some people(like myself) prefer true OpenSource Software. Those people will use GNU/Linux instead.
linux apparently runs faster than OS/X on a Mac on any Mac Hardware... according to the people at my local Mac store.

I like running Linux on Macs.
I've got 4 boxen (a Powerbook 5300c, Power Mac 8500 and 8600, and a Mac IIci) running Linux. They're more useful than they ever were with a Mac OS on them, they're more stable than pre-OS X systems, and they're cheaper than current OS-X machines.

I run Gentoo on my iBook. Reasons:
1. my iBook is very linux friendly. everything pretty much works.
2. it's a chick magnet ;)
3. OS X was too bloated, and didn't give me any options to configure during installation.
4. linux just rocks. if i want to run BSD, Net/OpenBSD will install on the iBook (but alas not everything seems to work just yet from what I've heard).

Those are all good points, I hadn't even thought of the speed issue which should be the most obvious. And yes there is alot of bloat in osx due to its user friendlyness, definitely why I like being a nerd, the need for less bloat in my operating system.

Less bloat and more control.
Yeah, that's the stuff...

Yep... Being a computer geek is definately a part of it. My very first Linux installation was on a G3 Mac :D . It's nice to have options. Dual booting on a Mac rocks!
