Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : what are src.rpm 's ?? mempman 01-06-2004, 07:03 PM what exactly are source rpms.... it doesn't make sense to me cause how can you have binary source files?? OTP 01-06-2004, 07:18 PM "Source RPM's contain the source code for a package. "rpm -i xxx-a.b.c.src.rpm" does the install, which means to extract the main source file, typically a compressed tarball (xxx-a.b.c.tar.gz, and some patch files. You can then extract the tarball (for example, tar zxvf xxx-a.b.c.tar.gz), apply the patches, configure, and make the application. I suggest that you look at the man pages for rpm for more information. Of special interest, the Source RPM also has info (scripts, etc) to allow you to compile or build the application." Im not sure if this answers your question... but its all i got. serz 01-06-2004, 08:08 PM Same question has been asked today. http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=119796 mempman 01-07-2004, 01:20 AM sorry , my bad clearly me and the penguin smoke entirely too much weed! **blows smoke** justlinux.com
