"Source RPM's contain the source code for a package. "rpm -i
xxx-a.b.c.src.rpm" does the install, which means to extract the main
source file, typically a compressed tarball (xxx-a.b.c.tar.gz, and some
patch files. You can then extract the tarball (for example, tar zxvf
xxx-a.b.c.tar.gz), apply the patches, configure, and make the
application. I suggest that you look at the man pages for rpm for more
information.

Of special interest, the Source RPM also has info (scripts, etc) to allow
you to compile or build the application."

Im not sure if this answers your question... but its all i got.
