Name the best one package/program/script you ran across in 2003. This is so we can share our finds with others. It's hard to pick out one, but if it's the best then there's only room at the top for one.
Mine is:
Mozilla/Thunderbird Mail- automatic spam control, easy to set up, and it works well with Mozilla.

COMMAND LINE:
screen: just started using it this year and I don't know how I ever lived without it.
naim: fantastic instant messenger/IRC/telnet client
GUI:
sylpheed-claws: made the switch from regular to claws this past month or two. Zillions of must-have features.
bogofilter: in combination with sylpheed-claws is just about the best damn combination I can think of. In just a month and a half of use, I've nabbed almost 1000 spams with maybe 10 misses, and 0 false positives.
MozillaFirebird: again, went from regular to unleaded this past month and I've been thoroughly impressed with it. Very easy to configure, extremely responsive, and less tempermental than its lumbering big brother.
xfce4: incredible work. Was good enough to for me to drop my beloved *boxes. No transparency like some other "pretty" WMs, but is light and fast AS WELL as being extremely robust. Extensively themeable (my current setup looks like a *box WM). My only gripe is the necessity of using the xfce4 panel, but it is a small price to pay.
gkrellm2: fell back in love with it after switching from dockable WMs to xfce4.
ROX: best damn file manager out there...bar none.
Those are the ones just off of the top of my head.

Supybot (http://supybot.sf.net) - the best IRC bot out there. Seriously though. If any of you ever wanted to try an IRC bot, Supybot is the one to try and it's getting better every day. Just because I work on the project doesn't make me not objective enough to know that it rocks :p After all, the first bot I wrote (Moobot (http://moobot.sf.net)) sucks and I know it :) (though it does suck a lot less than many other options out there)
