Are there any around yet? Or should i just try and compile it myself? Also, has anybody had luck with compiling it under MDK 9.2 (i can finally use it with new video!)

I'm using 2.6 now in Gentoo.

bash-2.05b# uname -r
2.6.0-test11
bash-2.05b#

I had a few bugs to work out but it seems to be very stable now. It helps if you pick out the right IDE controller chip ya know. Sort of crashes and stuff.

It is really neat though. I haven't tried it in Mandrake yet though.

Yeah, doesn't work with MDK 9.2 well at all, and i got this developers version of Mandrake which i'm gonna try with 2.6 built in. SO i'll tell you how it is (i guess thats the MDK 10 you were talking about

yeah i know but i'm avoiding compiling myself cause i haven't had much luck with it recently, so i wanna try a distro with it built in.

i saw a tutorial somewhere on how to upgrade the kernel in mandrake 9.2, i forget where it was, but it went something like this:

1. download the mandrake 10 beta cd
2. open the mandrake control center
3. add the mdk10 cd as a new software install source (look at how the other mdk cd sources are set up, you will have to define your rpm directory and the location of hdlist.cz on the mdk10 cd)
4. click update software
5. search for the kernel and all the needed components (module-init-tools)
6. let urpmi update it automatically

i know it works because my roomate is runnning mdk9.2 with the 2.6.0 kernel.

thats pretty neat, but since i already downloaded it, and it has newer things built into it, i think i'll just take it for a run, just to see what its like.

Eventually I will get everything installed too. GIMP is next. That should be fun. Openoffice sure was. It compiled for about 12 hours. Guess that CPU heatsink works good.

Oh, no more crashes either.

alright, so obviously it is possible, i just don't feel like going and resolving it lol. i tried out Mandrake Cooker (10) and that 2.6 kernel is something else, improved my speeds dramatically, especially boot up time. but as of now its not anywhere close enough to complete, so its hard to enjoy. Unless, you're a developer though, then its a different story i guess.
