I just did a fresh install of Red Hat 9.0, and before loading the Nvidia drivers I ran glxgears and was getting in the 200's fps, after installing the nvidia drivers, it went down to the 75's fps. Its an older TNT/riva2 card, but on other installs i've always had dramatic increases in fps. Do you think the newer drivers are made for the newer video cards?

I did run Tux Racer and it ran smooth though.

Does dmesg | grep 'kernel NULL' come back with anything? (If you have a newer Via motherboard, it probably will.) If so, there's a workaround available but I'd rather not go into it unless you need it.

The other thing is, these new nVidia drivers claim to do something to "lower CPU usage of programs syncing to vblank". It seems to have dramatically affected my glxgears framerate for the worse -- but that's only because glxgears is such a horrific benchmark. It doesn't stress anything but your CPU. :)
