Alan Th 25Dec2003 1pm ET Hi, What distro are you running and what brand of card do you want to install? e.g Nvidia or ATI your distro may have tools to help you acomplish the task:D happy holidays bosox abw 12-25-2003, 03:14 PM I have RH9 and Dell GeForce4 MX420 64mb currently. The card I want to install is MadDog FX5200 Plus 128mb. bwkaz 12-25-2003, 09:56 PM If you've installed the drivers from www.nvidia.com already (revision 4496 or 5328), then you can just shut down, pop the new card in, and boot back up. It'll work. If you're using Red Hat's default drivers (or nVidia's drivers before either 4496 or 4363; don't remember which), then I don't think they'll be new enough to recognize the FX5200. It might work with XFree86 4.3.0's default (2D-only) driver, it might not. If it doesn't, get nVidia's 4496 driver and install it. The README on the driver download page is quite good. abw 01-01-2004, 04:46 PM The new card did not work with RH's drivers, as you surmised. So I did download and install nVidia's 4496 driver, and it worked out fine. Thanks for your help. :) bwkaz 01-01-2004, 05:00 PM Glad it worked! (You also now have 3D capability. :D) justlinux.com
