I recently build a mame machine using windows xp... sure enough, after a couple weeks, it just decides it no longer wants to boot (pretty much sums up all of my experiences with xp). I have decided to move the mame machine onto slackware (what it I run on my desktop and love).

I installed slackware tonight, and textmode works very very well. However, i can't get x to start. using the values for my monitor, i can not get it to load any modes.

the monitor has a 15.75Khz Horizontal refresh, and a 47-63Hz V-fresh... im using the super-spiffy ArcadeVGA card by www.ultimarc.com. it is based on the Radeon 7000, but has a 15Khz vga output that i wired up to my arcade monitor.

using this card i am 100% certain it is possible to do a 640x480 interlaced desktop, because i had done it in windows. However, when i try startx, it tells me that although a screen was found, no valid modes were found.

I entered the modeline:
modeline "640x480" 13.5821 640 696 760 864 480 484 491 521 -hsync -vsync interlace

(see http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=12783;st art=msg99969#msg99969) right under the refresh-rate declarations in the config file.

However, it still does not start x. I suspect that it is not seeing my manually entered modeline.

Can someone help me craft my xconfig? I think I just need a few fine pointers to get this weird case to work...
