Apache Digest Module

hi all

im a linux newbie and am getting used to it by configuring things like apache and servers. Im using apache 1.3.23 on RH 7.3. Im trying to use the mod_auth_digest.so module for secure password transfer. I have correctley configured the httpd.conf file but i get a invalid ELF header error relating to that module.

any help would be great
