i use GAIM cvs (0.75)
but the things i still miss here:
setting my own away message and sometimes it doesnt work to read the others away message.
then i have to fire up 'micq' and make use of the 'getauto' funktion :P
but otherwise its the best prob IMHO
but i think, ill play a bit around with gnomeICU now........
looks quite nice as well, not as great as gaim, but variatio delectat :P
btw, micq is the best console client i know....
WHICH ONE DO U USE?
(not a poll cos of the huge choice)

http://gnomeicu.sourceforge.net/
Feels the most like the Windows ICQ that I spent so many years using, expecially with the WindowsICQ icon theme :)

Gaim -- I can set my own away messages.
Actually, I got hooked on gaim when I was using gnome. Stopped using gnome when gnome2 came out cause I couldn't configure it how I wanted it, but I kept using gaim.
I like having all my im's handled by one process instead of 3 or 4. :)
Centericq -- I like using console apps alot because my hardware is currenly not so big, and they normally don't use as many resources. Centericq has support for all the protocols that I need/use and it's a console app. :)

knute, yep u can set the away messages, but no one would be able to read them!
at least, it didnt work for me and i got the newest version i think..........
at least i did not find plugin for that.......
hmm, i want gaim to have the set-awaymessage-feature and a better away-message-reading support, cos gnomeicu is notso great at all.. not very much configuration stuff and crashed 3 times already........
This is an opinion thread more than it is a technical issue, so off we go to /dev/random...

LICQ...
I use it because it was the first one I found, and it does everything that I need and want from an ICQ client, plus it looks pretty cool too.
