I was browsing the HP support forums and ran across a posting where a couple of girls in collage in the Netherlands are doing a survey of online help forums. I emailed them asking if they would like me to post it here and they were thrilled by the offer, I like helping people...it's my nature :)
Here's their posting and the survay takes about 15-20 minutes, so help them out for the holidays :D
Dear forums members,
We are two doctoral researchers at Maastricht University (Netherlands) looking into the effectiveness of online support forums and what you think of them. Toward that end, we have prepared an academic online survey that takes just 10-15 minutes to complete. The survey is available at:
http://www.fdewb.unimaas.nl/marketing/research/forumlinux
We would like to invite you to share your opinion with us. In order to show our appreciation for your effort, you will be notified of the findings and we will raffle 100 amazon.com vouchers. Thank you very much for your strongly needed input!

I'll help them.
Any chance of volunteering to fly over to Holland and help collate the data? :D

Its a good survey, the results will be interesting to see
Considering this was originally made for the HP forums and they made changes for our forums is a very nice gesture from them!

I know you're married, but there's no reason to walk through the world with closed eyes. :D
Yes, I'm very interested in the results of the research, too (I'm studying mediapsychology, also teaching a little) and we have our own research projects at the institute. One year ago three students of mine did a research on the level of acceptance newbies receive when they do their initial post. :)
However, any kind of survey that involves self-ratings done by its participants lack one thing: accuracy and potential misinterpretations.
Take for example the question wether its easy or not to find information in the forums. A newbie using the JL search may answer yes (as it doesn't have that many options), but I e.g. said "no" because I wish I could use more Google syntax in the forum search. :) Oh well, let's see what the results say. :)

Of course we're a little biased, we've worked hard to make a good forum and continue to do so!
The search function does need a little work, but nothing on the scale of Google! :)

I just heard from them, only 15 people from here responded
They wanted to "emphasize the 100 Amazon vouchers that we are raffling. One in four people will win such a voucher (value: 20EUR or $ equivalent)"
or in otherwords, we won't be able to see the results if there is nothing to show :D

Let's show some support and help these women out! If they don't get enough respondants their statistcal results will be garbage (stupid statistical power). Hey, it only took me 10 minutes or so and was painless. If you're on these forums you probably have time to kill anyways.

Also I think it is a good way for the mods to see what is good, bad or ugly about JL.
Come on guys, try and get everyone in your buddy list to do the survey, also it will be interesting to see how many Linux people there are out there!!!
I took the quiz, its rather long, maybe there are some questions they can edit out.

Some seem to be the same with slightly different wording, not much difference in the meaning though.
I did make a nice mention of mdwatts at the end. What would we do without him? :( :(

I got a e-mail about the questionaire we filled out. This is what I got.
Hi Dalek,
we have finished the data collection and will soon start with the data analysis. Once, we have the interesting results, we will provide you with all the details. Thanks for asking and many greetings from Maastricht,
Vera
I guess they will let us know when they are public.

I hoped they'd be done by now and have the results, but apparently they're still not done with the data analysis :(
Maybe someone from JL can help them with that... anyone studied marketing? ;)

keyshawn, it's about to come your way. May take a while to upload though.
It is a M$ PowerPoint Presentation. How funny they send Linux users that thing. Thank God for Open Office.
  :D :D :D :D
If the survey is complete and the results were published, why is it still receiving more feedback?
I just filled it out before finishing to read this thead.
