I've already adopted one, but not for me it was a birthday present for the g/f. I think I'm going to get another one though...I wounder if it would sit next to my computer like my little stuffed tux? I like the top 10 reasons to adopt one.

I did something to spread the Penguin Gospel at my work for Christmas. My wife actually came up with the idea. This morning, at 5 AM Central Time, I put little stuffed penguins on the office doorknobs (for those with offices) and on the keyboards of the cubicle dwellers. While not officially "Tux" penguins, they serve as great subliminal suggestions to use Linux more. For my boss, the President and CEO of the company, I bought a full sized stuffed penguin and placed it on the center of his desk. To reinforce the message, I am wearing my Linux sweatshirt emblazoned with Tux on the front and the words "We don't do Windows" below him. We run two Linux servers that I brought up at my work but my boss is truly in the clutches of M$ and we've started redeveloping some of our commercial applications using .NET. We've already suffered some issues because of this, so I'm pushing Linux and Open Source, in general, whenever the opportunity presents itself.

I think you should get your boss a live penguin and put it in his office on Friday afternoon so when he gets to work on Monday morning he will be really surprised. Also, the penguin will need one of those "Bag'O Krill" to eat over the weekend.

What an interesting idea... I wonder how long they'll live in an urban environment.

Is that site for real??

Can penguins really live in a urban setting?? Out of its climatic arctic temeratures??

Is that compant saying that you can buy a penguin and have it as an ordinary housepet....like a cat or a dog??

That's what I was wondering. I was under the impression you weren't allowed to keep certain wildlife as domesticated pets. Then again people do keep pythons and certain iguanas. I'd like to have a grizzly bear for a pet.

I think ill buy a few krill flavored chew toys for personal use.
It looks legit though. Let me borrow your credit card and ill tell you for sure within 2 weeks.

Hey Hard Candy, I see the perfect Christmas gift for Bon Bon.
He sorta hinted to me that he would love a few of them this year instead of the things you listed in your post about xmas wish.
Time to show your love sir...

Bon Bon actually likes penguins, he had one several years ago. He said if you use KC barbeque sauce it gets rid of the fishy taste.
We want to get a leopard seal and put it in the pool, maybe it will cut down on the number of possums wandering through the back yard.

With prices in the $700-$3000 range, and U.S. codes that would forbid this kind of enterprise, it's gotta be legit...right?

My B.S. detector is going off like crazy, hard candy.

Company Info page shows a huge structure, presumably:

Corporate Office
Penguin Warehouse, Inc.
1025 71st Street #4
Eau Claire, WI 53188
Sales
sales@penguinwarehouse.com
Penguin Farms
farm@penguinwarehouse.com
Phone
(715) 379-6629

but, the address on 71st Street is a suite number, which doesn't quite match up with the photo presented (in which the signage looks like it was badly photoshopped-in); and Switchboard.com has NO listing for any business containing the word "Penguin" in its name/title in the City of Eau Claire, WI.

Strange.....

MapQuest, given the address from the Company Info page, comes up with an "The Address you provided could not be found." error, and offers the following address possibilities instead:
1025 71ST ST EAU CLAIRE, WI 54703-9514, US
1025 71ST ST EAU CLAIRE, WI 54703-9513, US
but spots out an address position on Alpine Road, South of the C and NW Railroad line.

....uh, oopsie, maybe?

Switchboard.com does, however, have the following listing for the registrant of record for penguinwarehouse.com:
James Knickelbein
1516 Glenn Pl
Eau Claire, WI 54703-6121
(715) 834-0254
who, according to SwitchBoard.com, lives just about a mile (maybe even a bit less) East of the purported Corporate Offices of Penguine Warehouse, Inc.

Primo neighborhood, Jim. Just to the North of the C and NW Railroad line.

The copyright notice on their pages is as follows:
"Copyright 2000-2002 Penguin Warehouse, Inc."
but, according to the whois record:
"Creation Date: 02-jun-2002"
penguinwarehouse.com has only been around for just over a year.

Yeah.....that's the ticket!!!!
I knew the name 'Knickelbein' sounded familiar!

I *was* going to say that it's a scam, but it's only a hoax at most. Both domain names are parked at 66.98.160.17 too...go figure.

Let's take a wander over to Snopes to see what they have to say about it......DING!!!! We have a winner!!!

Sorry to put a dent in your penguin-buying plans, hard candy.
How about a nice, penguin sweater (http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/penguins.htm) instead?

That's OK, we're after leopard seals now. They'll clean up the varmints raiding the trash cans in the back. Plus they'll be good for the occasional vacum cleaner salesperson.
And they can sleep in the bed with Bon Bon, help keep him warm.

Geez guys, I went to the site, read the info and was ready to order, when I remembered my next door neighbor just got an Orca, and we all know, to them, penguins is just like chicken....:p

Lol, that reminds me of the whole Bonsai Kitten (http://www.bonsaikitten.com) thing! The fact that PETA and the American Humane Society got pissed off is almost as hilarious as the site itself. Some people are just too gullible.
