Hi all,
I just bought a used SGI O2 on eBay. I'd like to get any OS running on it, right now it's looking like I'm going to need to buy Irix (not too much luck with p2p.) I've tried installing NetBSD on it, but it gives me an error about not being able to read the cd format. I downloaded the sgimips.iso file. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks for the help!

O2 Specs:
150Mhz R10000
512MB RAM
4GB IBM SCSI hard disk
Moosehead A/V Board
SCSI CD-ROM Drive of sorts

I know absolutely nothing regarding the SGI O2 machines, and I'm still relatively neqw to NetBSD, but have you checked out the INSTALL notes (ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-1.6.1/sgimips/INSTALL.html) for NetBSD/MIPS?

Also, are you sure you burnt the disc as an iso, and you didn't burn the iso onto the disc, there's a difference, and sometimes people make that mistake.

HTH, for what little it is.

Thanks for the reply! Sorry I took so long... I found the install notes and I've tried doing what they say but it's not the simplest thing I've done. I'm pretty sure I burned the iso correctly, as I used Roxio EasyCD Creator or whatever it's called. From what I've read, the cd is a strange format (not iso9660.) I'll keep trying though, until I can get Irix

The SGI O2 unit has a MIPS processor. These are different than the usual Intel or Amd chips. SGI has developed IRIX operating system for these machines. You can probably get it cheaper on E-bay that from SGI. Getting from SGI costs about $600 or more to get the OS. I recommeend version 6.2 or 6.3.
