Hey,

I am new to Linux and have just installed Yellow Dog Linux 3.0.1 on a clean hd on my Mac G4. When I booted into YDL for the first time when the GUI login screen came up everything was all Messed up and scribbled like the horizantl sync and/or vertical sync of my monitor are messed up.

When I installed YDL found both my monitor and video card just fine, but I suspect this has something to do with an incorrect setting for one or booth items.

How can I get into a text based login from start up and then how do I change the settings/ trouble shoot this problem from commandline?? Oh, I hear that YDL is a PowerPC port of RH and works the same, so any RH experts who know what to do?

Thanks for everyones patients,

Russell

Ok, this may not be that much of help, but I'm not sure. I haven't installed YDL in a long time on my iMac. It was a G3. I had little to no problems with it, and it basically worked from the get go (thank goodness).

However, I don't belive that YDL is supported that well at all anymore. In fact, I think it was a very crappy distro overall, and was the reason I stopped using it.

However, Gentoo now has a version out for PPC. It gives you MUCH more control over just about everything on your system.

I'd reccomend giving it a shot on your box. http://www.gentoo.org

The documentation there is EXCELLENT and they support you 100%.

Just to let you know, YDL is not quite a direct port of Red Hat. The installer is much different as the architecture is a lot different on a mac.

I'm sorry for not helping you out so much, but my prior experience was very distasteful of YDL.
