Weird error message

I have RH 7.3 installed, but whenever I reboot, a Mandrake Linux screen comes up asking me to choose which OS to boot into. When I choose Linux, I get the following error message:


pivotroot: pivot_root (/sysroot, /sysroot/initrd) failed:2
Kernel panic: no init found. Try passing init = option to kernel


and it stops there, I can't get into the Linux OS, I have to reset and go into XP. What does it mean?

You have a old mandrake bootloader still present in the MBR. You can try installing a newer grub or lilo to the mbr, but probably you'll have to fdisk the mbr and then install another bootloader.

Do you know if that's the lilo or grub bootloader?

It's LILO. That explains why installing RH 7.3 after installing Mandrake 9.0 didn't fix it.
