Hi,

I'm having severe problems installing RedHat 9.
I have 2 sets of CDs; one downloaded from RH, and one set bought. None of them are working.
When I start a new fresh install, I choose all defaults; choose for a server or custom installation, doesn't matter what; errors are the same. Add the information for timezone, eth0 and eth1. After entering the root password the install crashes. All the information I have at the moment is listed below. Errors from the installation messages are caused by partitions that still exists. They should be thrown away during install.

I'm using the following hardware:
CPU: AMD Athlon (Thunderbird) 850 Mhz
Mobo: MSI K7T Turbo limited edition
Mobo chipset: Via vt8363(A) Apollo KT133(A)
Memory: 384 MB (3x 128 MB)
Video: MAtrox Millenium II; 8 Mb
HD1 ide0-master: WDC WD200EB-11CSF0, ATA-100; 22 Gb
HD2 ide0-slave: WDC WD400BB-75DEA0, ATA-100; 40 Gb
CD-ROM ide1-master: Creative CD5230E (52x)
HD3 ide1-slave: Seagate ST360020A. ATA-100; 60 Gb
Network 1: 3Com 3C905B-TX Fast Etherlink XL 10/100

Someone knows what is causing this/what to do??

I'm not positive, but it looks like it can't find a hard disk, if you observe the log entries-

device: hda3 drive: hda primary: None
and
device: hda6 drive: hda primary: None
^i'm thinking maybe it can't find a primary hdd? i'm not really sure.

So, you have a hard disk on IDE1 with your cd rom. i never did anything like that before, maybe this is getting it confused.... maybe you could try taking out that disk (if possible) and trying it again.

like i said, i'm not exactly sure, but that may be it.

I'm having a similar problem on my Compaq Presario 7360 with AMD processor. Except that most often, I get the message:

"You are trying to install on a system not supported by this version of Red HAt" or something like that.

The first time, though, it just went blank near the end of the options selection.

The first solution did the trick. Fysically dismounted hd3, and installed RH. After installing added the HD tot the system. Everything runs just fine now... Thx for helping out.
