Okay here is the problem, whenever i turn on this computer it stays on for about 5 or so seconds and then powers down. There is never any output to the monitor and there are no beeps. Here is the specs of the computer:

GVC FR520 Motherboard
AMD K6-2 500Mhz
128MB PC133 memory (using bus speed of 100mhz)
onboard SiS530 Graphics
VPower VT-300ATX Powersupply

everything as far as the settings for the processor are correct. at first i thought that it was shutting down from the processor overheating too quickly so i checked the fan and even went as far as to take away some of the thermal grease in case i accidently put too much and caused a heat barrier (read about that online a loooong time ago). I also disabled the onboard video and used a working ATI Radeon 7200 PCI to see if it was the video that was causing the problem but alas no matter what the same problem occurs. I read online that similar problems have their source with the powersupply the thing is that i used this ps in a computer before that was more powerful (AMD XP1500+/256M Ram) and it worked fine. Can anyone out there help me with this problem?

Is it just shutting off, or is it going through the shutdown procedure?

if youve been playin around inside your machine recently then you may have knocked the power cable and its loose on the motherboard, if not then your psu is probably on the way out, if you can try another one i would

well i know it cant be a loose powersupply connector because i had to take the whole thing apart to try and identifiy the motherboard, which had virtually no identification (went to motherboards.org to find out what it was). and i still have the same problem. after i get off work tonight, i'll try switching the powersupply with another and see what happens.

okay so i switched the power supply with a known working one and i STILL get the same problem, i really dunno what the problem could be at this point other than a faulty motherboard.... which i hope is not the prob

have you been using the same powercables? if so it could be that the cables have a bad connection

nope its not the power cables, since i cant seem to get to any other convenient receptacle in the house i use the powercables of the computer im using right now, which work. basically i just move this tower, and put in mine and test the system

With the computer able to power on and off itself then I guess it's the MoBo. Sorry.

Do you have a spare MoBo that you could try?

You could also dismantle the whole machine, give it a good clean (a toothbrush is great for cleaning heatsinks and fans) and then reassemble the entire machine (outside the case if necessary).
