Just want to make sure, the commands that run earlier versions of RedHat are still the same that run current versions, correct?

Yes. I think the naming of utilities complies to the POSIX standard so they won't change.

There may be some newer ones and some of the older ones may have been deprecated by now. It's worth checking the ManPage (man command) to see if anything's changed.

PS. This isn't specifically a RedHat question and we know the mod's are a little moody over the title of threads, so be a little careful.

Depends on which commmands you are asking about. From 7.x to 8 they dropped the Xconfigurator utility, and instead you have to run redhat-config-XFree86. If you are asking about general commands like ls, cp, mv, etc. then yes, they are still the same.

Thanks bwilliam, that's what I was after.

In 8.0, sndconfig is gone, here is a list of the new commands that are used to config a system in R8.0 and beyond. Some of these are accessed through main guis, but all can run standalone. NOTE: the package redhat-config-xfee86 is dangerous. It will allow for any option to be set, doesn't test, then restarting X will not load. Not only that, the 'error' path for it, 'cant load X, starting with default session' does not work, so you can happily hose your X and not be able to get it back. This is in my tips/tricks file, I like to repeat it over and over cause it catches so many people when they change their display.
