How would this run on a semi-brand new computer? Would a newer version run better, or would the fact that it's older mean more kinks have been worked out?

AthlonXP 3000
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

You will probably have fewer problems if you run a newer version. If you allready have 7.3, you could load it up and see what happens. RH7.3 is a good version, but I like RH9 alittle better.
