i keep getting a script failed error when i try to config my dial up connection. i know all the specs, userids and passwords. if have tried all tty and com settings. the phone line is plugged in...is there something i am missing. i am running a hp pavilion with an internal modem...i assume it is compatible as it is only a couple of years old.

it is not even trying to dial out as of now.

Damn modems :)
It's an internal modem. Which model? Is it listed as being supported.
The port for internal modems is ttyS4. (ln -sf /dev/ttyS4 /dev/modem)

don't know...yet. i'm still looking to see if it is supported.

everything else has been fairly easy up to this point.

i was reading something about getting my linux box online by running it through a windows box as a proxy server...they both look equally difficult right now.

Popping up your computer cover and taking a closer look sometimes helps too :)
