I just bought Linux Bible and it contained Red Hat Linux 7.1 kernel 2.4.2.2Anyways when I set it up I used 5partitions,250mbroot,1.5gbusr,1.5gbhome,500mbtmp( 256mb-swap). Is this an acceptable setup on Red Hat. I have a 10gb hd so there is still plenty of unused space. I primarily use GUI interface and when I am running KDE my 128mb of ram is close to maxed out , but with gnome running it is considerably less75-80mb. Does that sound about right for Gui.
Thanks Mark

That sounds about right. If you have internet access, why not upgrade to another distro that can use a lighter window manager-kfce4,etc. You may be able to use a lighter window manager with RH 7.1 . You probaly have to wait a while for the gui to load. You may get better performance out of some of the hardware if its not having to run a heavier gui. Welcome.
