It is a great article, unfortunately, it is very subtly but completely sarcastic, and people MIGHT think he is serious. This clinches it though. :-)

I was shocked by how few preference-gathering applications were running in the background and how it did absolutely no "calling home", never even contacting the Mandrake server to make sure my product's license key was intact. Who wants to use an operating system that doesn't learn about you, that doesn't keep track of what you like to look at on the web, listen to, or watch? With Windows XP Home, I have the peace of mind that comes with knowing my habits and activities are being monitored by Microsoft, and my computer's hardware configuration and list of installed software is being stored in a database in Redmond.
and
Ultimately, using Microsoft software is much, much safer from a legal standpoint. Since the source code is proprietary and closed, there is no way for stolen code to get into the product.

Great read. Bookmarked it.

I'm running XP on the monster rig I use at home--a brand new Compaq mid-tower--and the OS blazes like a Corvette. I especially like the four games it comes with - Hearts, FreeCell (so addictive!), Minesweeper, and Solitaire. It's easy to see why XP is considered the ultimate platform for gamers.

The entire article is a fine piece of sarcasm!

...major portions of the Linux kernel, the Linux filesystem, Linux networking utilities, and portions of the human genome are all illegally copied from Unix System V...

Oddities of the rehash sattire.

Come one guys. This is the same sight with the article about building a Linux system your grandmother can use.

Let's examine the article as if this guy is actually serious. Hopefully, it well help others avoid blatantly obvious stuff. Quality sattire actually makes you think before it hits you.

I am going to steer clear of "total cost of ownership" arguments, because Microsoft has already funded extensive research that has proven Windows is cheaper to own and operate than Linux.

What are you retarded? I always trust studies about companies that are paid for by that very same company. These have been picked apart that it's just silly to pretend you actually take those reports seriously.

And since all of my buddies at work use Windows Media Player 9 to rip, mix and burn CDs that we can't share with each other or play in the car, we are extremely excited about the Windows Media Player 10 beta that comes integrated with Advanced Server 2003.

First off what company does this guy work for!?! Must be one of those companies where everyone plays so much they forget to work. Kinda like in the dot-com days. And this company seems to be rolling in dough so eager to deploy WAS2K3.

Windows versus Linux on the Home PC

This whole section makes me think that the aurthor spent some time reading through the Adequacy.org archives. Classic rehash. Especially concerning DRM and restictive EULAs limiting what people can do and how this is a good thing.

I especially like the four games it comes with - Hearts, FreeCell (so addictive!), Minesweeper, and Solitaire. It's easy to see why XP is considered the ultimate platform for gamers.

While laughable it getting a bit stale discussing how Windows is the ultimate gaming platform based solely on these included time wasters.

but with Windows XP I don't gotta worry about emailing viruses to my friends and family at all. The built-in email client Outlook Express does it automatically, in the background.

I'm not sure if he's trying to stir people up saying that OE check for viruses automatically, or whether he's saying it automatically sends viruses without luser intervention (address book).

As I am sitting here writing this column, my computer is busily defragging my hard drive, running my virus scanner, and I'm being shown a list of all the latest MS security patches that are being remotely installed on my machine today.

Now this is just dumb. You'd have to be pretty stupid to run any defrag util (even good 3rd party ones) while downloading or installing anything.

Why doesn't Linux come with any defragmenting tools or virus scanners or Active Backdoor Update like you get with Windows?

Stale

No way would I run a Linux operating system if it means I can't connect to America Online. Also, where is Microsoft Office for Linux, Windows Media Player for Linux and Outlook Express for Linux? Nowhere to be found.

Definitely been checking out Adequacy.org. You can read something eerily similar in this archived article. (http://adequacy.org/public/stories/2001.9.30.83943.2736.html) Perhaps the Adequacy.org bunch have simply started a new pages or found a new home.

Linux is popular with the freeloading crowd that feels justified stealing all their music, movies and software for free.

Yep spending waaaaay too much time at the Adqauacy.org archives. The whole section is just lame.

Windows versus Linux - Intellectual Property and The Law

Finally, something at least a little fresh and more along the lines of quality sattire. It's better than what the folks at Adequacy.org did when they simply swapped WindowsXP with Xbox in their reviews.

On one hand it's funny, and on the other hand, you've got those aspiring Linux newbies who will read this, not look around and think, "Boy, this guys right... Linux really stinks! Glad I didn't download it yet."

And then on your third hand you've got script kiddies who won't even look at it and just flame 'hard candy'.

(you do have a third hand, don't you???)

I'm not worried about them, my windows messenger is set up to only display messages from sites that have "Inc." in their url. And I enabled the "only trust content with the verisign certificates" option-so my computer is solid and impregnable as the Rock of Gibralter. Troll-An electronic mail message, Usenet posting or other (electronic) communication which is intentionally incorrect, but not overtly controversial (compare flame bait), or the act of sending such a message. Trolling aims to elicit an emotional reaction from those with a hair-trigger on the reply key. A really subtle troll makes some people lose their minds.

I save a lot of time thanks to Windows XP, which brings me to another area where Linux is lacking. As I am sitting here writing this column, my computer is busily defragging my hard drive, running my virus scanner, and I'm being shown a list of all the latest MS security patches that are being remotely installed on my machine today. It seems most of you misunderstood this one. He's not talking about people not able to steal code out of Windows, but that stolen code can't be put into Windows. If it's locked and proprietary, no one can see into it to find any stolen code, therefore it must not be there.
