hello,
i am working with a sun os 5.7 server. i found a bunch of gnu utilities i would like to download from http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/packages/solaris/sparc/. now the server is sun os 5.7, so which solaris package should i get for best compatability? could someone also please explain the difference between sunos and solaris, because i am a bit sketchy on those. the packages seem to be in .pkg format. how are those installed on a sun os system? (they are binary packages). as you can see i dont have very much experience with sun os/solaris.
thanks,
alex

The version you are talking about is Solaris 7. Check out http://www.harmanresearch.com/solaris/#VersionsofSolarisExplained

Also, the utils you are talking about I bet are available on www.sunfreeware.com. You will also find a howto on how to install the packages. Good site.
