Hi,

I have installed Red Hat Linux 9. Sound card detection module detects the sound card and I'm able to hear the test audio as well as some sound associated to window events. Which means that the OS-Sound card interaction is working fine. Problem is with the Gnome Audio Player; when I insert a audio CD the gnome cd player app shows all the tracks correctly and starts playing the first track, but no sound !!!. I also tried the "Grip" application, it fails to recognize that the disk is mounted. Please note that I have configured to automatically mount the CD and if it is a audio cd to play with gnome audio cd player.

Any other processes/daemons need to be up for the gnome audio player?

Try logging as root, open Systems---->Users and edit the user profile. Look under the group tab and make sure the user is part of the audio group.
And make sure the gnome audio is set to use the correct sound system-probably Esound (I think it was esound in RH9). You can also try OSS and Alsa if esound doesn't work.
And you might try logging into KDE and seeing if noatun can play the cd.
If not then you may need an audio cable going from the cdplayer to the sound card. (Windows didn't require one). (Or try switching to ALSA sound-I think it can play without a cable).
