I have the demo running under linux. Now can I copy the files from the full version over to the linux side like you can with quake2 or RtCW?
Is there an installer available?

I do not know if that is possible to do. I was trying for a while to get my copy of SoF to run under Linux using all of the patches and demo versions I could find, but it never worked. Since then, I have given up. If you ever figure out how to get it to install, please let me know.

Bear in mind that Loki did a port of SoF (I'm assuming we're talking about Soldier of Fortune), rather than id providing the Linux version/source. You may find that the full windows game files are not compatible with the demo Linux version.

Don't quote me though ;)

I was able to copy a windows installation of SOF II to winex ~/transgaming_drive/program files and it runs fine. I tryed it under wine first, but I was missing GL stuff so it wouldnt run.
As for an installer, I cant find one for linux native install.
If you have no problems with your cdrom drives unmounting, u can also use winex to install SOF II. If your just using SOF, (i dont know how many disks it has) it should work the same.

I copied the pak files over just like you would do with wolfenstein, however it won't get past the last map allowed by the demo.
I get a dark screen and can only hear the game running after that.

Are you using wine, winex or what?

If you want to play Soldier of Fortune natively in linux, you must buy the linux version.

no I'm not using any wine I'm just putting the pak files in the sof demo folder.
It usually works with other id based games. However the executable is also a demo version and not just the pak files.
It looks like I need the standard executable in my sof folder.
One thing that happens when I use the retail pak files is that I get more player models and the stats button is now unshaded.

Nobody carries the linux version any more. The windows version was only $9 at wal mart.
I tried to install the patch but it says SoF isn't installed and the files that were extracted go away. I discovered that you can copy them before they self destruct, and save them.
Now I have to see if I can force the patch to apply itself to the existing binary.

i was able to install sof2 by cheating... you mount the first cd, let the sucker install, when it gets to the second cd, you force quit and manually copy some files into your wine (transgaming, i spose) drive.. its neato, and worked like a charm...

It appears we have a communication problem! You absolutely cannot play Solder of Fortune in linux natively with your Windows CD. Linux binaries are not downloadable. Any linux patches you find will not help you at all. You are wasting your time and if you don't have windows, you just bought yourself a novelty $9 coaster.

natively is a funny word... when i run SoF, I use linux's OpenGL subsystem... it isn't technically even emulation... its... not really natively either... but the point is, is that it is /runs fine/. i can connect and play online, etc...

so, if the windows install disk works alright under linux, why worry if it was supposed to work or not?

If you don't mind the cost, you could always purchase a copy of the Linux SoF version from Tux Games (http://www.tuxgames.com). Unfortunately, it is $46. You can usually find most old Linux games on Tux Games, even if they are a bit pricey.
