Browser patent (http://www.atnewyork.com/news/article.php/3102651)

I read this and am not sure if this will affect anything used in linux. I realize the resolution is some time in the future, really just curious. It seems to mainly affect ActiveX and maybe some Quicktime and Flash plugins. Thanks for the info.

From the sounds of things, a lot is going to change in regards to IE's reading of <embed>ed objects like applets and Flash. Could be a lot of code out there is going to have to be rewritten. I know Macromedia has already set up an area of their site to deal with the upcoming problems.

The W3C is already hard at work to appeal the decision. Prior art will play a big part in this case.

I read the first two paragraphs and it's a claim by someone to own the entire WWW community.

Am I required to say more? This post up for edit.

Perhaps you should read more on the subject- you completely missed the point.

Sure - will do. You can often get the gist of an article by the first couple of paragraphs, but I'll read the rest later if I get a chance. Repartitioning my drives tonight (joy of joys...) and installing a router.

Not sure how software patents are going to work out with the Linux community. The whole nature of something being open source is that no one person is responsible for a project.
