i am writing this off of my laptop, as the title says, it is running mandrake 9.2. Under windows it would run quake 3 decently, at 800x600. But when i tryed it under linux it says that it it had problem starting opengl subsystem, yada yada, and when i run it with +set opelgl software or something like that, it barely runs at 320x200 windowed and all effects down (gets about 2fps)

so... any ideas from the crowd how i could get it to support OpenGL?

how i could get better drivers maybe?

What kind of graphics card is in your laptop? Actually, all of your laptop specs might be useful to know.

700mhz

386mb ram

mandrake 9.2

2 pcmcia slots

haha, just ignore that last one, i think that is about all that is needed, it is a gateway solo 5300

I think that Gateway is using a simular chip to the S3 SavageIX8, which is in my IBM Thinkpad T20. The SavageIX8 has NO hardware 3d exceleration.

S3 would have to hve made Linux drivers. I don't know if your chipset is specifically supported by XFree DRM....S3 is not popular for their drivers....
