When I run the file ut-install-436.run on the cd, it tells me to mount the Unreal Tournament....But its already loaded!?!?!? Anyone know whats wrong?

What distrobution are you using? I am currently using MDK 9.1 and when I installed Unreal Tournament 2003 I had to do everything manually, including mounts.

Its MDK 9.1 and I am trying to install Unreal Tournament(Not 2003, although I have the Windows version of it)
I have the game on cd, and I put the cd in the drive and mount /mnt/cdrom , but the installer tells me to mount the cdrom, which I have already done....

Well heres a tip, if you have the windows version of it you have the linux version of it. If you bought the 3 disk set, there is an unsupported Linux installer on disk 3. :D

As for the first Unreal Tournament I will have to go home and see how to get that installed.

Thx ;)
Yeah I have heard there was a linux installer on disk 3, but I cant find it....

I am at work currently but when I get home I will find the file name and post it here. Just an FYI though, it will NOT run without an Nvidia card. I got the thing installed and was outraged when I couldn't get it to run on my ATI. The game actually looks for a call procedure from the video card to ensure it will run correctly, no Nvidia no game.

I have an nVidia card
Do you know where the installer is on disk 3(ut2003)
I can only find 4 files on it....2 txt files and 2 exe files....

Yes it will. Read my post on UT2k3 & Glide below. I was misreading the CD and I am actually using UT. I run it with a Voodoo3 card (although the Glide isn't working). Now I know nVidia bought out 3DFX, but the sure as hell didn't employ any of the Voodoo technology onto the nVidia cards so my card "shouldn't" work, but it does.

Did you get Direct Rendering working?

You can get UT linux installers here:

ftp://ftp.lokigames.com/pub/patches/ut/

I have used them successfully several times. The only thing is, sometimes the video will suck till u upgrade to the 451 patch. I have a umod extractor too that u run with wine to add your favorite mods. Send me a private message and when I get home I can send it to you.

AutoRun.exe
AutoRun.inf
DirectX8/
Extras/
Help/
Sounds/
linux_installer.sh

(this is what ls -F -1 /mnt/cdrom should print.)

I have the game on cd, and I put the cd in the drive and mount /mnt/cdrom , but the installer tells me to mount the cdrom, which I have already done.... Try to export SETUP_CDROM=/mnt/cdrom before running the installer. That might help.

Also turn off supermount if you have it on (cat /etc/fstab and if you see anything related to "supermount" on the /mnt/cdrom line, then post that line and somebody will post back what it should be without supermount).

What do I have to do to verify this? I got the install to run beautifu but when I actually run the game I get an error. I will have to reinstall it since I have made changes to my partitions. I would be greatly interested in finding out what you did to get this to work. Currently, UT2k3 is the only reason Windows is on my box

Just a heads up to the original poster, Atari has some odd bug with they're UT games. When you try to install it in Linux it asks for a disk, lets say disk 1, and when you put in disk 1, it doesn't work. It keeps asking for disk one.

That's because it doesn't always want disk 1. It might ask for a disk but need a different one. So next time put in another disk, maybe disk 2. See if that helps.

Also, keep a console window open. Mount and unmount your drive manually every time you need to change drive. This should give you a good install.

It's not really a bug. Everything was fine until some doof changed the disc names before UT2003 went gold.
