Ximian Evolution not compat with SusE 9.0

G'day all I am running SusE 9.0 and was going to install Ximian Evolution email program (lastest version) and it's says "Unrecognized version OS".

Or something to that effect (I am at work right now)

Any one know why this might be or how to work around it?

This is from the Ximian site

Evolution and Connector for Microsoft Exchange are supported on the following distributions:
Red Hat Linux 7.3 (see note below), 8.0, and 9.0 (x86)
SuSE 8.2 (x86)
Linux Mandrake 9.1 (x86)
Sun Solaris 8 (SPARC)(requires Sun GNOME 2)

If SuSE 8.2 is supported why would 9.0 not be?

The error just means that their precompiled binary of it won't work on your system as it is compiled against suse 8.x.

You need to either a: look for an RPM for it for your version of SuSE from another source or b: grab the source code and compile it yourself.

Thanks, I will try the "compile it myself" I have never done this \yet\ so this might be a good time to give it a go :)

I am still shaking off my "Point and click install" frame of mind and must remember you can make it work yourself with Linux.:)

Just a follow up: A did the complie and it worked (although I did find a version that would work) I though this would be a good time to do my first compile.
