EDIT: I'm running slackware 9.0

okay, so i got morphius faydal's conexant softk56 data/fax modem (if thats exactly what it is....he knows) cause he didnt need it anymore and my old modem is fried. i downloaded the drivers for it, the install went great, drivers are in, but when i did "hsfconfig" to finish it up, i got this error:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No pre-built modules for: Slackware-Slackware linux-2.4.20 i686

Trying to automatically build the driver modules
(This requires a C compiler and proper kernel sources to be installed)

ERROR: /lib/modules/2.4.20/build points to a missing directory

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Oct 14 17:31 /lib/modules/2.4.20/build -> /usr/src/linux-2.4.20

Please ensure the kernel-source is properly installed
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had to copy it from my linux box in my other room to paper, back to this comp, so i may have misspelled some of it, but all the dirs and such are right.

Morphius says that i'll have to download the source for the kernel, but thats like 30 megs....really slow on my dial up....any other way around it? and if i do need the source, you guys will have to walk me through getting it to where it needs to be...im a linux n00b :(

thanks in advance,

To install the conexant drivers you do need the kernel source, otherwise as you've found out it won't install. Unfortunately I don't use Slack & have no idea how to install the kernel source on there, but unless you have upgraded your system the source should be on your install disks & you won't have to download it.
