gentoo with d-link wireless card

i've got a problem.... i'm trying to install gentoo and i've got a d-link dwl520+ wireless network card. there are no drivers for it included with gentoo and i am unable to make the texas instruments one work, it gives me a "module not found" error, even though i point modprobe to the correct directory. can anyone help me?

is there any way to make it work directly from a stage1 installation? i mean, its a bit painful to install gentoo just to compile a driver and then start over again for the stage1 install... or did i misunderstand the instructions?
