I have a system with two HD , one has WinXP and I have intall Linux on the second HD.
I am using Partition Magic and Boot Magic, Boot Magic does shows Linux as unavailable .
I have put Lilo on the second HD and now Linux won't Boot not even with a boot diskette.
Any ideas how to solve this, is boot magic able to boot linux ?

I haven't used bootmagic since it came free with Mandrake 6.0. I've found that bootpart (http://www.winimage.com/bootpart.htm) gets the job done well. It uses the NT bootloader to multiboot linux. This does require that you install your linux bootloader onto a linux partition, but not the mbr.

If you don't want to do that, or it doesn't work, the least complicated solution would be to try changing the boot order in BIOS so it attempts to boot from the linux drive. This might work if your distro installed itself that way.

Well, bootmagic should be able to do the work fine, but if I were there in such a situation, I'd dump bootmagic and go w/ either XP's ntloader of Linux's own LILO/GRUB.

I remember trying to dual boot w/ bootmagic but it didn't work so I now just use ntloader instead.

Yes....dont use either applications. More money and aggravation than they are worth. Fahrenheit451 has the right idea. A little prior planning on harddrive layout goes a long way. If you would like a set-up for a clean install dual-boot....... Go Here (http://justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75693&highlight=dual+boot) BTW...I like to set-up my Win and Linux as separate primary partitions and flag my "/" partition as bootable, for Lilo or Grub. I use this method with 3 HD's. Windows always being /dev/hda

in bootmagic make sure you turn on "override visible partitions" under the advanced mode, this may allow you to select your linux partition. and i think it is a good idea to have lilo on the linux drive so when u reformat and reinstall xp (as should be done at least every 3 months) u don't have to reinstall lilo which can be a very painful process.

I found a stupid solution w/ Partition magic , you have to install a Win 95,98 on a small partition install Part. Magic on win95 and then install XP, and then Linux a lot of work for nothing , so do not use Partition Magic at least yet, if you have to use a commercial product I think System commander does it better and of course do not buy anything and use Grub
