Hi there,

I'm looking to get a used laptop - just something that will run the basics and I will most likely be installing something like Mandrake on it. So, I'm guessing it doesn't have to be much more than 500Mhz, but I'm open to anything if the price is right.

Also, I'm also considering a used iBook just because of the size.

In either case, I'm looking for it to be small, light, and really portable capaable of basic word processing, email, internet surfing, and scheduling.

Let me know if you have anything that might work or if you know of any good websites to buy cheap laptops without OS's.

Thanks.

Well, if you are looking for websites, there is Dell Auction (http://www.dellauction.com/) or you could buy a refurbished Dell (http://www.dfsdirectsales.com/). You could also check out Tiger Direct (http://www.tigerdirect.com/) as well.

I have a generic amd notebook I'm looking to sell. 512 RAM, Athlon XP +1800 Processor, DVD-ROM, 2 PCMCIA slots, built in 10/100 lan, winmodem, not exactly lightweight but it will run linux... especially newer Mandrake and Red Hat. I ran RH 8 and 9 on it with no problems except it gets fairly hot. An ACPI kernel (ie Mandrake 9.2 or Fedora Core 0.94) takes care of that. PM if you're interested...
