dump device

Hello,
can someone please tell me how this dump device works and how to set it up, we tried it in class but I got really confused and didnt fully understand it. Can you please put it in simplier terms for me.

Can you be a litte more exact?

I've just tried:

> man dump
> man dumpdev
> ls /dev/dump
> ls /dev/dump*
> man *dump*

The last one brought up TCPDump. Is that what you want to know about?

If so:
From the man page of tcpdump:

Tcpdump prints out the headers of packets on a network
interface that match the boolean expression.

I was thinking more along the lines of how to determine the size of your dump device. Its got something to do with block size and as you can see I really have no clue. Just wanted to understand how it is created.
