i just installed slackware 9.1 and i love it. some of the worthwhile changes to the install include:
the installer asks questions about serveral package groups THEN installs them, so you can do other things for the interim. this is different from the old 9.0 install where you did a group, installed them, then did another group, making you have to baby sit the installer.
when it came time for the second disk, you are simply prompted where you have the second disk or not. seamless in my opinion.
for some reason, my lilo didn't work. i booted in another OS and chrooted to reinstall lilo and it worked. the problem may have been with my third party installer, but thought i would mention it.
overall the system seems fast (even though i am running the default KDE). also of note, java was installed by default, making things a little easier. also, in the internet and network part of the kde menu, under web browser you can enable java and java script with a few clicks of the mouse. very refined indeed!
overall, i think this is a keeper. now i have a slack9 AND a slack9.1 box. not sure which one i love more ;)
slack on,

have you found any flaws with 9.1? i downloaded the ISO files but didn't try it yet.

if you mean physical flaws, no i ran an md5summer over the files before i burned them.
about the distro itself....not yet.
to be honest i have just been running it to surf the web, and copying some config files (samba, apache, fstab, etc) from my slack9 box and doing a little tweaking. i have not found anything that was broken yet. its slackware, just updated packages and some added goodies.
like i said, this swaret is nice, and i was glad that the kernel-source was included in this version, i always hated running for the kernel source in 9.0 after an install when i wanted nvidia drivers. (the previous sentence is definitely a run-on, but i am too tired to fix it.) :)

I find it interesting that someone would brag about Slackware finally including features that have been in other distros for quite a while now.
My first distro was Slackware, but I've since switched to Debian.

Let me be the first Gentoo user to jump into a thread discussing updates to a distro and smile while shaking my head in a good-natured way... ;)
That being said, it's good to hear positive feedback on Slack 9.1; a few people here at my school are avid Slack users and will appreciate the news.

didn't say they weren't in any other distros, said these features were included in slackware (finally). people defend their OS like it is their life............maybe it is.

Woah chill...I was just trying to inject a little humor. You should read carefully as well, you'll notice the other part of my post was pro-Slack and relevant to the thread. Now, Sepero could've been a little more positive...

Indeed, I was very pleased to see they included Fluxbox this time, and the pre-installed Java was a nice surprise too. :)

i had a lilo problem as well, it didn't install to my superblock of that partition. i booted into another distro and chrooted to that partition, then ran lilo again and it worked. i dunno...........

chrooted=what? lol. well i tried under the MBR, but it refused to install there, i tried superblock which i never have before and it installed but didn't work. hm

Did you use "liloconfig"?
You know, I don't think you needed to chroot, if you installed lilo to your MBR. When you run lilo, it updates your master boot record, you shouldn't need to worry about needing to get into that partition. But, I think I'm assuming to much.
Oh well, it's all working now.
Slackware 9.1 seems really good. It doesn't seem much different, maybe a bit faster with the updated libraries. I also feel like this GNOME is faster than the dropline I was using before I updated, and I'm not having dependency issues like before with certain things like the flash installer. I'd installed that manually before and something was causing GNOME to crash when I viewed flash things.
P.S. A good way to update is with Swaret. www.swaret.org

i chrooted because i was installing lilo on the root partition, and my third party bootloader didn't recognize that partition as bootable. i went in and ran /sbin/lilo and everything worked, you got me................

no i just did the setup through the installer when you configure the system, they maybe the same thing though? also, is it possible to install LILO through windows?

as i said in my above post, it didn't work right out of the box, and i did the advanced lilo setup.

Oh, my mistake. I thought you were trying to update your lilo configuration for some reason. I was gonna say that chrooting is a lot of work if you just need to update lilo to the MBR when you've got another partition.
And I don't know if you can install Lilo from Windows. I think GRUB will. Well, I know one of them does and one doesn't, I'm just not sure which one it is. I think it's GRUB.
