As the title states..... is anyone else having Gaim/Yahoo connection probs? Yahoo Messenger had an upgrade scheduled sometime in the last couple of days and I think they changed their protocol.

Yahoo is pulling a Microsoft and is kicking old software/3rd party software off of their IM service. You have to download gaim 0.69 which is supposed to work. 0.69 was released today.

After rereading the gaim page, it looks like 0.69 won't work until the new authentication method is cracked. Sorry if I got your hopes up.

um i think kopete still works with yahoo but it is horribly unstable. everytime i press the spacebar when sending an instant message to a friend, it would crash.

oh_well_i_found_a_way_to_work_around_it ;-)

0.69 is not fixed for yahoo yet

well, really IMHO I can't blame them...
I don't think they are in contact with the developers at yahoo, nor were given any definitive instruction as to the changes made to the protocol nor the authentication challenge.

What do you do?

Wait for the changes and break out a packet sniffer and hack away. That is good enough for me. In the mean time I'll just continue to monitor their forums for updates or workarounds.

I'm just writing in to confirm breakage here too.

?

fascinating post  anyway all my machines had broken yahoos as well, my redhat machine though is ok as yahoo made a version for redhat, debian, and fbsd. Of course now i gotta use the yahoo messenger now :( but it's not as bad as previous releases.

Just to let everybody know, gaim 0.70 has been released which has the new yahoo messenger authentication support in it. But it sounds like the new authentication scheme hasn't been broken 100% yet, so there still might be some problems.

Won't be far away - the Mac versions is already out (according to The Register).

Any news on cracking the MS encryption system?

Not wanting to wait...I downloaded the Unix version of Yahoo messenger. I run Slack so I downloaded the RH 9.0 rpm and did a rpm2tgz......and I'm pleasantly surprised at how fast and stable it is. Configs just as the Win client, but no web-cam support...oh well, its not like I expected it. I dont think I'll worry about Gaim as Yahoo is the only IM I use anyway.

Gaim 0.70 works a treat.

Also the new Yahoo messenger (from Yahoo) works great too except for receiving file transfers.

Oh and if you're a KDE user, in the options make sure you de-select "Create menu items" else you get a Segment Violation.
