AndrewD2 09-26-2003, 02:40 PM Well, yes you can use a 56k modem with Linux, but the question is, do you have a winmodem or a hardware modem. If you have a winmodem, you will have a "fun" time getting it to run for you, if you even get it run. I reccomend getting an external modem, the kernel will recognize it. Now the ISP questions. What do you mean by what ISP to they have? From my experience you can use pretty much any ISP for your purposes, except AOL. You just need to know the information on the ISP to set it up. I hope that helped some, Andrew dalek 09-27-2003, 09:41 AM My ISP uses Linux for its servers, a lot of them do. There are some that require special software, AOL being one of them, and therefore won't work. Mine says it does but since I use Linux and they do to it works fine. One way around this is to ask if they support Macs. If they support Macs, you have a good chance unless they also have special software wrote for the Macs. I would put in the info and just try it. If it connects GREAT. If not, change ISPs. I went with a local ISP, mom and pop, and have great service and no problems. As a matter of fact, I help them because of my debugging options. Something goes wrong they call me. I try to connect and call them with the error that I get. They know where to go looking for the problem. :D :D :D :D pvd212 09-27-2003, 06:41 PM thanks alote becouse of your help iam posting this replay runing linux and using a 56k to connect thanks alote for your help bye dalek 09-27-2003, 08:13 PM Hang around a while.
