I looking for a new linux distro.
Ive been using Mandrake 9.1 for about 6 months and have used knoppix from time to time.
I only ever use KDE as my window manager.
And i want a distro where installation of programs is easy and the distro must have everything mandrake has and more.
Thanks anyone
If you've used Knoppix, which is based on Debian.. then go for Debian :D
Moving this to /dev/random.

I was actually thinking about installing a different distro on one of my boxes besides redhat. I was looking into debian, but do you need to download like 7 iso images to install it?

No, you don't need to. You could get the first cd only, and get the rest of the packages you off inet. That's no problem if you have broadband.

do a knoppix hard drive install. i cannot stress how much i liked my knoppix hard drive install while i had it, i only lost it due to a HD crash.
I would go with those above and try Debian. Debian has such customisability (if that's a word  ) and you can install any and all of the packages you like really simply using 'apt-get' or synaptic.
As Serz said you don't need to download all of the ISO images...If you have a fast internet connection I would reccomend installing from 'apt-get' rather than using the ISO's as they could be out of date with security issues. With apt you get the most up-to-date (usually) packages that are avaliable to Debian. Even if you dont have fast internet connections you can buy the CD's from many online shops that charge about £4-8 for the set of 7 CD's.
See my sig for really great articles on installing Debian - It will make the install process a lot easier for you. ;)
Jme.

ok, so i guess im looking to download the "minimal cd" and the just apt-get whatever else I need.. or would I be doing something wrong?

But lets say you download the 7 cd's then install debian from that. Then couldn't you just run apt-get dist-upgrade or something and it will update all of those packages?
I might end up downloading all seven cd's becuase I might want to install debian on more then one pc. (i have cable)

No, same iso. It's a live-cd and the install is optional.

I installed Debian with one CD. Install using Clinton De Young's excellent article in www.osnews.com and it's not difficult at all. Now I'm a Debian convert.
