Im tring to connect my virtual ms2000 machine to the net but the connection hangs at authenication. Do I need to setup something other than a dialup accout (ie network) or a script . I searched the site but didnt find anyone with this same problem.

Is the modem configured and working in the host (Linux) machine as it must be working before you can use the modem in the guest (Windows)?

Why not just dialup in linux and have vmware share it as an ethernet device ?

Goto

http://www.vmware.com/support/ws4/doc/index.html

click on 'Troubleshooting' and then do a search for 'modem'.

I have followed these instructions everything works fine until the dialup to isp connects and hangs at authencation. It is quite a pain to keep killing kppp and rebooting the vm just to get the modem working I think the least hasle would be some networking solution. however I am a networking idiot.

Can you test to see if authentication is working correctly on a non-VMWare machine?

Have you verified all the isp ip addresses, username/password, authentication method etc. are correct?

How does W2K access the modem through a virtual machine... with a virtual modem device?

im sorry, Ive left out some info
everything is working fine and configured corectly as it needs to be for a physical w2k machine and the isp is up and running and I have connected to it with a real windows machine
the modem is a external ttyS0 that I used the serial port wizard in vmware to install
the dialup conection dials , connects, hangs
I have tried a script but it doesnt seem to get past login
im using the NAT network option ,may be related
