Hi all folks,
I am going to make use of Shorewall for sharing broadband connection as per following setup:
- 3 PCs, PC-1 with 2 NICs and PC-2 and PC-3 each having only one NIC
- PC-1 eth0 connected to broadband modem (ADSL)
eth1 connected to a switch-hub
- PC-2 and PC-3 connected to the switch-hub
- Installing "Shorewall" on PC-1 allowing port fowarding as well as firewalling
- File sharing will be done by Samba
Kindly advise
1) Which document shall I read. It is relevant to my request.
2) Whether Shorewall will suit my application. Any alternative, easy to setup?
Thanks in advance.
B.Regards

Shorewall works OK for me. Once I read the basics on IP Masquerading and firewalling, all it took was editing the files in /etc/shorewall to match my set-up. The files are pretty well commented, and you should be able to work most of it out just by copying the existing entries.
PS I'm using Debian, so maybe the default files I had were supplied by Debian and don't apply to other distros...

On Shorewall's page (www.shorewall.net), you will find a quickstart guide link on the left hand side. In there, you will find a howto for a two-interface system that works as an internet connection sharing system, as well as configuration files that work the same way.

Hi freakmn,
Thanks for your advice.
I found it "Basic Two-Interface Firewall" and have following packages downloaded.
patch-1.4.6c
shorewall-1.4.6c-1.noarch.rpm
shorewall-1.4.6c.tgz
shorwall-1.4.6c.lrp
I will start from tarball. Kindly advise;
1) What will "shorwall-1.4.6c.lrp" be used for?
2) Can I make only 2 PCs (workstation) connected as an experiment.? One PC has 2 NICs and they will be connected with a crossover cable?
