I just got a Nvidia GeForce 2 graphics card, which I know is supported under Linux, but I haven't managed to get it working yet. X simply won't load.

When I was running a ATI Rage card, I loaded the 8139too module and that seemed to take care of it. I can't remember where I found out the module name for that card.

I looked on linux.org, but all it gave me was the driver name, which I imagine is different from the module name. Running make menuconfig didn't help me find the info.

download the installer from nvidia.com

read the readme that they have there. it explains everything.

also - if you run into problems, do a forum search here. there are a ton of posts on how to get nvidia cards working.

8139too is an ethernet card module

Try using nv as your driver in the xf86config.

All you need............

In your /etc/X11/XF86Config........

# Graphics device sectionSection
# Device configured by xf86config:

Section "Device"
Identifier "NVIDIA GeForce"
Driver "nv"
#VideoRam 32768

And depending on your distro there may be tools to help you edit the config file:D I have an Nvidia card and the slandered nv driver has worked fine for me at least to get X up and running - the 3d acceleration
