Hello,
I have an older US Robotics courier dual-standard v.32 modem that I use. (I got it from a friend) who told me that the firmware could be upgraded to make them run 56k. (like the 56k v.everthing) Anyway, I was curious as to how I would go about finding the documentation on this project. I've searched Google to death, but there is no detail in anything that I have found. I'm new to the whole dial-up thing (I was spoilt with DSL) so any good information about improving my connectivity would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I would think the firmware upgrade would be available on the 3Com/USRobotic site where you download the drivers etc.

The firmware upgrade software for most hardware usually has to run from DOS or windows. Modems especially. Most usually, if you wish to upgrade the firmware on any modem (win modem or not) you will have to do it from within windows.

I found the utility on usr's site (what a pain to figure out what model I have) Then I found the firmware update for Win only like you pointed out. But I Just got a call from my friend that he had already done the firmware upgrade. I guess he was just telling me for futer reference if I ever needed to.

BTW I'm really impressed with how bulletproof this thing seems to
be, I have never had a dial-up connection this stable before, especially on AOLnet servers. (I use the Penggy software for *nix)

Thanks for the input guys
Tj

Doesn't that just mean that you have to run the update utility from a Win9x bootdisk?

No, the actuall program that does the firmwae updating is a Win32 executable. You got to actually have windows running (win 3.x not supported). And I would NOT trust this to the mercy of Wine.

There are some upgrades that can be done with only a dos boot disk, however.

However, all of this info might be good to know if I decide to get another modem just like it in the future. I would like to try the ancient art of modem teaming someday.:D
