Hello all: I am hoping to soon install freebsd5.0 I've installed RH8 before and found it relativly (sp?) easy. After looking at some of the documentation provided with OS (publishers edition: Sams, FREEBSD2nd ed, Unleashed) and reviewing the freebsd site, http://www.freebsd.org/ I've come to conclusion that this might not be as easy as RH. LOL... Does anybody have any tips/hints for this installation? I'll be going to a second HD and overwriting RH. The HD in question has RH8 on it but it is in a new box with a new mobo, ect... overwriting it seems the logical thing to do, not much there to loose and much to gain (experience). Once again thanks. Yours, eskimo...:D :D

on the FreeBSD site, did you go to the Handbook section?

deleeuw: Yes I did. The help there seems quite straight forward. Just thought I'd ask here as well. Thanks for the reply. eskimo...:D

Honestly, all you'll need is that handbook.

The install is pretty straightforward, but it is different from Red Hat Linux. If you just read the handbook, you should be okay.

Make sure you read the partitioning section closely. It's a little different with FreeBSD. It's actually a little more simple in my opinion. But I would have to say all in all, it is every bit as easy to install as RedHat IMHO.

Hello all: Thanks for the encouraging words. I'm not going to save the RH8 partition, Its been in another box, this newly built box has a new mobo and a lot of other features. freeBSD will go on by itself. I'll be doing the deed in a few hours, just cut the grass and I'm quite tired and hot. Cooling down and then some food and then on to the install. Once again thanks for the good words. I hope to soon be posting here from inside of the new install. Yours. eskimo...
