I had a crazy idea and I think It might possibly work. But before I do anything stupid I decided to post here and see if what i want to accomplish is do-able. I downloaded the DivX Codec for Win32 and installed it with Wine, and now I can see all my DivX movies in Noatun (Linux App). So... Since I couldn't find any working drivers for Slackware 9.0 on Radeon 7000 PCI (Because this crappy *** sony vaio can't take AGP). So the idea popped into my mind... Install the Windows Driver for the card and (hopefully) it's gonna work with my Linux Stuff. (So I can get some Hardware Acceleration!). Is what I'm thinking do-able?

No, unfortunately not. Hardware drivers can't be ported straight across.

are you wanting to use a windows driver with slack?
I dunno for sure sine wine is a Windows compatibility layer or do you just want 3d accel in wine?

but like andy stated this is not going to work

Well it was just a thought. I do need some Hardware Acceleration though! Even if it is only on Wine. (Most of the games I own are windows only). But if I can get it fixed up so that Quake 3 Linux port works, It's would be THAT much better.

Well... Yes they are. By the way: Anyone know why I'm getting this error when I try to run anything with WineX:

Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".

And if so... How can I fix that little problem?

**take's a deep breath and calms down**

I am using a Radeon 7000 PCI video card. It has proven (At least to me) close to impossible for setting up. Mandrake Linux 9.1 has built in support for this wonderous card. The problem is.. When I try to run the system (Everything lodes fine until...) It goes into X (Essentially... Starting up KDE 3.1). Then the monitor simply goes into "Standby mode" and turns off. I know the system is loading because I even hear the little intro tune to KDE in my speakers. And nothing happens (At least monitor wise). It just stays like that. I even tryed using the RCA (out to t.v.) plug at the back of my card but I still get the same effect. Any ideas as how to fix this?

PS: Sorry for the spasm.

I'm still waiting for someone to write me an ATI howto for my site, everyone seems to run at the thought of the idea:D

Ahh... Slackware is probably waay too not for me right now. I'd like to double-click a .rpm file and have install rather than "make this... compile that... ./configure, make install... sh, chmod that". I'm really going to need a valium after today. The sad part is, I have Mandrake just sitting there. All 3 burned .iso's . To bad I can't get my monitor/video card working.

does the monitor go into sleep mode?
do you have the correct vertical refresh & horzontal sync rates for your monitor in your xfree86config file?
