Alright, all I need is an english-english dictionary that I could download (text pdf whatever). I've been looking all over for one but cannot find and english-english one, so if anyone knows of one, has one, could link me to it, could send it to me, anything... it would be great and one less book I have to carry around. Thanx.

It may be a UK english dictionary to USA english dictionary. Look on KDE's site and freshrpm.net

Alright, I'll put it into simpler terms... you know how you have sites like www.dictionary.com where you type the word and it gives you the definition of it. Well, I'm looking for a dictionary that I can download, so I don't have to access the internet when I want to look up a word and so I don't have to carry an extra book (a dictionary) in my school bag... so all I need is my laptop. Example: dictionary.doc, txt, whatever <--- when I open the file there is a HUGE list of words which I may scroll thru and find the definition of a certain word. Hope this was more clear, again, thanx for your time.
Ok, moving this to Software...
Have you tried searching at freshmeat for "dictionary" or something?

ok, this is not software, this is a text file TEXT file that contains words and their definitions. It is just like a hard cover dictionary (you know, the book) but is a text file.
Now I've been looking EVERYWHERE for a LONG time (even irc but I'm not too too experienced). If anyone has one or knows someone that has one or knows where to get one... omg I would love you forever, really *nods*.

did you have a similar file in windows? or is this the first time you have looked for something like this .If it is just a text file you will be able to use it in Linux also. I myself have never seen or heard of such a file:D
I couldn't find a text file, but you could go to:
http://www.wcsu.edu/library/odlis.html
and copy all the A-Z pages into a text file.
There's http://digilander.libero.it/inglele/ENG/Dictionary/dicfiles.htm but that's into other languages:(
You could also take OpenOffice.org's dictionary, but it doesn't have definitions. Look for a .dic file, such as en_US.dic.
Moontears, sorry I misread your post. This was posted in the right place. I thought you were looking for a Software.
Moving it back....

I'm not sure abt 'similar files in windows' but there are dictionary programs for windows. I use American Heritage Dictionary and I've also been wondering if there're programs/apps like such for Linux..

Finally for f*cks sake! Only took me a day *sigh*.
Those who might need a decent dictionary (don't have a net connection, stick it on your laptop, whatever) here (http://www.mso.anu.edu.au/~ralph/OPTED/v003.zip).
