I just installed my first version of Mandrake 9.1 with dual boot XP. The install went smooth and I thought everything was gonna work the first time, but oh well.

After selecting linux from the boot loader and logging in as root, the Startx command server gives 3 EE errors
1. No core pointer device
2. Unable to to determine Screen layout
3. Error Xf86handleconfig file

Would I be better off reinstalling linux or fixing the problems.

Nobody yet??? :(

Did you successfully configure X during the initial installation?

Your X config file is either /etc/X11/XF86Config or XF86config-4.

ls -al /etc/X11

Look for the correct file and display to the console/commandline with

less /etc/X11/XF86Config or -4

and look for the InputDevice section for the mouse and the Screen sections.

I have no idea on the third problem unless it means X cannot even find it's config file.

Did you read and follow ALL the Mandrake installation documentation available on their site?

Especially when you are new to Linux, always read your distros installation guides either in HC form or on their website and select 'Expert Mode' install (if they have that option) and slowly go through every section of the installation and ensure you have everything configured correctly.

Enjoy your new install...
