I was speaking to some classmates today. Most of them are computer science majors. Anyhoo, one of them informed me that he is taking a class called Moral Hacking. My initial response, of course, was to laugh. Once I settled down from that, I began to realize that such a class is a great concept. Sure, it could teach someone how to create some serious damage. On the other hand, someone interested in net security could pick up any number of tricks to better secure their own netowrks.

If I have spare units, I may take that class.

What do yall think? Would you take the class if the opportunity came along?

Yep, I would too, but is the teacher really going to know the latest hacking techniques?

I know a university in my area who put together something like that. Of course it was after I had transfered away from that university.

Anyway there was a lot of hype and then nothing so I'm guessing the class wasn't all that great.

You have a synopsis of the class? My first thought was 'social engineering' or 'how to make people feel how you want' :)

Being a hacker is rarely about coming up with fresh new ideas. Being a hacker is more about perfecting things that already exist. Just get the code from a small program and start improving on it. You'll soon see what it's like to be a hacker. If you can do it, congratulations.

No offense, just my $0.02

BTW:
If there are any true hackers out there, the guy that maintains 'wget' is looking to step down. You can read more about it at www.gnu.org
