I downloaded windowmaker and installed everything and compiled it all correctly but i dont know exactly how to make it work, I read all the documentation and it says to change in the xinitrc file to say "exec windowmaker" to make it look like

#!/bin/sh
exec wmaker

I did this but it did not work. ive been searching on google/linux for a few days now and of the few documents i have found theyve told me to change things in different files, ive tried the few that ive found and none seem to work so im probably doing something wrong, could someone please help a noob out??

are you using a graphical login manager? if so, use the non-graphical startup and type "startx", it should come right up.

How do I do this in KDE? Through the control center in login manager? I could not find it there. I found something in gnome though and switched graphical greeter to standard but it made no difference.

i only know the long way around in KDE, but you have to kill the process kwin and then enter the command "wmaker" or "windowmaker", whichever one it is, and it'll work, there is a way to make it start that way when you enter KDE, but i never did it.
