Has anybody noticed that OpenOffice.org 1.1 seems to be vastly quicker than OpenOffice.org 1.0.3? It loads up faster than Microsoft Word on my XP partition.

Well, that's nice. I haven't used OO for awhile because of the speed. I guess I'll have to give it a try.

OOo1.1 is a vast improvement speedwise.

I really should give that a look. Thanks for the heads up! I wasn't even aware that a new version had been released!

edit: whoops, it's only the third release candidate. Any ETA on the final version?

edit: meh, what have I got to lose? I'm wiping this hard drive on thursday anyways. I'll let you know what I think. ;)

Also, there's another tip in the "How I did it!" forum about speeding up OO by increasing its graphics cache.

Anyhow, yeah, it is a lot quicker. I like it already. :) The presentation is much more solid in this version. I couldn't stand to look at Openoffice.org 1.0.3. It was really ugly. :P

It's been a long time since I've tried an open source office suite. I'm a die-hard WordPerfect fan, and I love my WordPerfect 2002. The last time I tried open source I got a bad taste: it was incredibly slow, and it wanted to take over my entire desktop (right down to a "Start" menu and everthing). That was several years back, though. It may be time to try again.
