How would I use a terminal (aterm xterm etc.) as the the back ground of my desktop, like the one below:

http://www.justlinux.com/forum/attachment.php?postid=311828

I have tried setting one to fill the screen and have it conpletely transparent but it stops me from clicking on my desktop (needed for meus).

I have read through the xsetroot, xset and Esetroot man pages but they dont mention this function.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Yes, but what im trying to do is have a transparent terminal as the desktop background.

I know how to make the terminal transparent, but I dont not know how to place it as the background.

it isn't on the background in that screenshot. it just has the Window Decorations removed.

so - depending on what WM you are using, remove the window decs and you will have the same thing. the process of removing the window decs varies per WM. you will need to read the documentation of your WM.

You could also Print Screen the terminal when it's full-sized and set up the way you want, and use the resultant bitmap as a background.

It seems the screenshots look nicer than they function.
Thanks for the response.
